Nll Three Stars: Week 3

Stephen Stamp from IL Indoor has posted his NLL Three Stars of Week 3, which featured just one National Lacrosse League game this past weekend. Luckily, Buffalo’s thrilling 14-13 win over Vancouver featured plenty of star power, giving Stamp plenty of options for his weekly list of the top three individual player performances.

“With just one game on tap in the quietest weekend in the National Lacrosse League’s 2015 schedule, picking the IL Indoor NLL 3 Stars is a little easier than usual,” Stamp writes. “There were still plenty of impressive performances to be found in Buffalo’s 14-13 squeaker over the Stealth in Vancouver, though. There was a trio of 8-point performances highlighting Saturday night, but there were also three other hat tricks. Not a lot of defenders or goalies tend to stand out for recognition in such a high-scoring game, so we’ll definitely be heavier than usual on the offensive side this week. But if you read this space regularly you know I love to give the defenders some love, so look for them to make a comeback next week.”

Second Star
Ryan Benesch, Buffalo Bandits
3 goals, 4 assists
Tied for the league lead in goals with Rhys Duch and Rob Hellyer, Benesch is playing near the form that made him the league scoring champ in 2011. He’s a potent weapon for the Bandits and even more dangerous now that opponents have to pay so much attention to Smith.

Third Star
Rhys Duch, Vancouver Stealth
2 goals, 6 assists
Duch took over the NLL scoring lead with his 8 points on Saturday. He’s producing week in and week out for the Stealth. He’s the major reason the Vancouver offence is performing so well, averaging 14 goals per game. Now if only he could play defence as well and help out a unit that is surrendering 16 per game.

Honorable Mentions
Tyler Digby (Vancouver): 3g, 1a. Showed Saturday that he’s got good hands and and good outside shot to go with his power forward moves inside…Joe Resetarits (Buffalo): 3g. Resetarits is kind of the forgotten man in the Buffalo offence, but his contributions…
